CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT REGINALD MCPHERSON
Command Chief, Georgia Air National Guard
Chief Master Sgt. Reginald McPherson is the State Command Chief for the Georgia Air National Guard. He is responsible for advising the adjutant general, the Air Guard commander and the state senior enlisted advisor on all matters pertaining to the enlisted personnel of the Georgia Air National Guard. In his prior assignment, he led the enlisted force of the 165th Logistics Readiness Squadron, encompassing six diverse-functional flights with over 120 enlisted personnel. He provided guidance and leadership to a logistics function that supported over 1400 personnel, managed $165 million in assets, and supported worldwide mobility operations.
McPherson enlisted in the Air Force Reserve in May 1980. Upon completion of basic military training, he attended Aircraft Pneudraulic Mechanic School at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill. He was assigned to the 315th Field Maintenance Squadron as an aircraft pneudraulic mechanic on C-141 aircraft at Charleston Air Force Base until he transferred to the 165th Airlift Wing in May of 1989. McPherson was hired as a full-time technician in November 1989 and worked in the maintenance squadron as a dedicated C-130 Hercules crew chief. He was selected as the wing’s ground/weapons safety superintendent in March 2002. In February 2010, he moved to the logistics readiness squadron as the operation compliance superintendent.
McPherson’s education includes: non-commissioned officer academy at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn.; senior non-commissioned officer academy in 1997 at Gunter Air Force Base, Ala.; community college of the Air Force degree in aircraft systems maintenance technology at Gunter Air Force Base in 1999; an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Saint Leo College in Saint Leo, Fla. in 1999; a Bachelor of Science in professional aeronautics from Embry Riddle and Air National Guard chiefs executive course at Arlington, Va. in 2012.
While assigned to the 165th Airlift Wing, McPherson has participated in several operations including: Volant Oak (Panama), Joint Endeavor (Germany), Joint Guard (Germany), Joint Forge (Germany), Operation Support Hope (Africa), Desert Calm (Saudi Arabia), Southern Watch (Dhahran), Coronet Oak (Puerto Rico), Flowing Pin (Curacao) and an USO tour. During these operations, McPherson functioned as a dedicated C-130H crew chief.
McPherson’s awards include: three Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals, two Air Force Achievement Medals and a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. His state awards include the Georgia National Guard Service Medal, the Georgia Humanitarian Service Ribbon and the Georgia State Active Duty Ribbon.
