​​Brigadier Gen. Jesse T. Simmons, Jr. is the commander of the Georgia Air National Guard. In this position, he reports to the Adjutant General of Georgia. General Simmons' duties and responsibilities include direct supervision of the Georgia Air National Guard headquarters staff and command of more than 2,800 Georgia Air Guardsmen serving in two flying wings, seven geographically separated units, and the Air Dominance Center.

​​General Simmons graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and received his commission through the officer training school program in 1985 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He completed undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi and C-130 initial qualification training at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. General Simmons is a command pilot with over 4,900 flying hours, including 96 combat missions in Southwest Asia and 140 combat support missions in South America and Southwest Asia. He has commanded at all levels, and served as deputy commander, 455th Expeditionary Operations Group, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

​​Brigadier Gen. Simmon's education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, 1984; Squadron Officer School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, 1985; Master of Education Psychology, University of Oklahoma, Howard Air Force Base, Panama, 1995; Air Command and Staff College, correspondence, 1998; and Air War College, correspondence, 2002.

​​While on active duty, Brig. Gen. Simmons served at numerous duty stations, to include: Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina, Howard Air Force Base, Panama; Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana; and Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

​​General Simmons transferred to the Georgia Air National Guard's 165th Airlift Wing in February, 1999, where he served in many positions as he rose through the ranks. From April, 2007 - November 2012 he served as vice and wing commander until he moved to the Georgia National Guard Joint Force Headquarters to serve as the Georgia Air National Guard Chief of Staff - a position he held until assuming his current position as commander of the Georgia Air National Guard.

​​Brigadier Gen. Simmons' major awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Media and Aerial Achievement Medal. His state awards include the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal, Georgia Commendation Medal and Georgia Humanitarian Service Medal.
