The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Macon Volunteers"[1]) is a modular infantry brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard. One of the oldest units in US Army history, the lineage of the 48th Infantry Brigade can be traced back to 1825. It is one of few units in the US Military that also saw service as a unit of the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War. Georgia's 78th Homeland Response Force (78th HRF) is a major command of the Georgia Army National Guard. Formerly 78th Troop Command,it officially changed its unit designation on November 1, 2010. Once home-stationed in Decatur, it has, since Jan. 11, 2011, occupied the former headquarters of Naval Air Station Atlanta at what has been the Clay National Guard Center since late September 2009. As 2011 progresses, many of the units that make up the 78th HRF will be relocated from their present armories to facilities at Clay.
