Brigadier General Jason Fryman

Assistant Adjutant General - Army

Brigadier General Jason Fryman assumed command of the Georgia Army National Guard, May 3, 2024.

Colonel Jason W. Fryman served as Chief of Staff and Senior Guard Advisor for the Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team, U.S. Army Futures Command. He was also the Capabilities Integration Lead for Future Vertical Lift International Programs. His previous assignment was Commander, 78th Aviation Troop Command (3 years), while concurrently serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff – Aviation & Safety for the Georgia Army National Guard. Additionally, he served as National Chair for the State Army Aviation Officer’s Executive Committee and is current member of the Aviation Readiness Advisory Council for the Director, Army National Guard.

A Georgia native, Colonel Fryman commissioned as an Aviation Branch officer upon graduation from North Georgia College in 1996.

His civilian education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies. His military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course - Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course (Honor Graduate), Aviation Captain’s Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, the Advanced Operations Course, and the Senior Service College at the U.S. Army War College (Resident). His aviation specialty schools include the Aviation Maintenance Manager’s Course, the UH-60 Maintenance Test Pilot Course, the UH-60 Instructor Pilot Course and the Rotary Wing Instrument Flight Examiners Course.

He has held numerous command and staff assignments from platoon through brigade level. Previous key leadership assignments include Section Leader (Air Ambulance); Platoon Leader (Light Utility Helicopter); Commander, Company C, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment (CSAB); Commander, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment (GSAB); Deputy Brigade Commander, 78th Troop Command, and Commander, 78th Aviation Troop Command. Key staff assignments include Battalion Logistics Officer (S4); Brigade Aviation Officer; Battalion Executive Officer; Brigade Operations Officer; Chief, Training Division/State Training Officer, G3-GAARNG; Deputy G3-GAARNG; and Executive Officer to the Adjutant General – Georgia National Guard. Colonel Fryman’s combat experiences include Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn (Iraq).

His awards and decorations include The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal (2), the Meritorious Unit Citation, Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge, and Master Army Aviator Badge.
