Georgia National Guard Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

MARIETTA, Ga. — Media are invited to attend the Georgia National Guard Memorial Day Observance ceremony. This ceremony honors Guardsmen and Reservists who paid the ultimate sacrifice during their time in service.

What: Georgia Department of Defense hosts the annual Memorial Day Observance ceremony.

When: Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.

Where: Clay National Guard Center
1000 Halsey Avenue
Marietta, Ga. 30060

Who: Maj. Gen. Thomas Carden, The Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, Maj. Gen. Thomas Grabowski, commanding general of the Georgia Air National Guard and Brig. Gen. Dwayne Wilson., commanding general of the Georgia Army National Guard are scheduled to attend. Maj. Gen. Carden is scheduled speak.

Background: When the sun rises every morning over the Clay National Guard Center, the Headquarters of the Georgia Department of Defense, its first rays shine upon bronze plaques that honor and remember service members who have lost their lives in overseas operations since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. It is fitting then, that every morning’s first light should reflect from the countenances of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country and fellow service members. The men and women whose names and images are honored on the Georgia National Guard Memorial Wall represent Guardsmen and Reservists from four states, from Florida north to Illinois and west to the Pacific Ocean.
