Georgia Air National Guard History

The first Air National Guard unit was established May 1,1941, in Atlanta, and went on to serve in the European theater of World War II. During the Korean War, the Georgia Air National Guard was mobilized en masse and flew missions over the skies of Japan and North Korea. At the height of the Vietnam conflict, Georgia Air National Guard transport aircraft delivered supplies and evacuated wounded personnel from airfields throughout the combat zone. For more than two decades, Georgia Air National Guardsmen have been continuously deployed overseas in support of contingency missions providing invaluable airlift support during emergency response operations at home.
