The 4th Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)-Civil Support Team (CST) is a full-time, jointly manned National Guard unit, consisting of 18 Army and four Air Force Active Guard Reserve personnel. The team supports civil authorities at domestic incident sites during specified events, which include use or threatened use of a WMD; terrorist attack or threatened terrorist attack; intentional or unintentional release of nuclear, biological, radiological, or toxic or poisonous chemicals; natural or manmade disasters in the United States that result, or could result, in the catastrophic loss of life or property by identifying hazards, assessing current and projected consequences, advising on response measures, and assisting with appropriate requests for additional support. The 4th WMD-CST missions fall into two mission areas: prevention and response. The 4th WMD-CST or its elements are employed for domestic use (response) or threatened use (prevention) of WMD. Additionally, the 4th WMD-CST must conduct individual and collective training to sustain unit readiness and are externally evaluated by Army Northern Command Civil Support Training Activities Observer Coach/Trainer’s to validate response capabilities in both the State of Georgia and National incident responses. The 4th WMD-CST complements and enhances, but does not duplicate, federal and state CBRN response capabilities.
