MARIETTA, Ga. – The first day at her initial duty station at the Brooke Army Medical Center Trauma Unit on Fort Sam Houston, TX, Staff Sgt. Jaeden Hamelly had to respond to a 14 year old boy who lit himself on fire in a failed attempt to take his own life. This traumatic event was unbearable and at that moment, she told herself that she could not do this. However, she had leadership who noticed this struggle and gave her the necessary push to overcome her distress.

MCCAYSVILLE, Ga. — Georgia State Defense Force Soldiers deployed to McCaysville on Aug. 3 to assist local officials and residents as recovery efforts continued following devastating flash flooding that struck the North Georgia community overnight Aug. 1-2.

Brigadier General Jason Fryman, commanding general of the Georgia Army National Guard, presided over the ceremony in which Col. Nate Stone relinquished command to Col. Matt Johnston.

Wilson, the Adjutant General of Georgia, presided over the ceremony and congratulated both parties as they began their new journeys.

FORT STEWART, Ga.— The Georgia National Guard’s Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy (FSYCA) graduated a new class of 87 cadets June 9, marking the completion of a five-and-a-half-month program designed to provide second chances to at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 18 who struggle to complete high school in a traditional setting.
