Non-regular retirement (Traditional)

Enlisted personnel and Officers with 20 or more years of qualifying service are eligible for non-regular retired pay. Soldiers must request to retire and provide a desired effective date of retirement. Soldiers must elect to be transferred to the Retired Reserve or Individual Ready Reserve. Retirement benefits and pay start at age 60. (Note: pay can be received sooner if eligible under the Reduced Age Retirement criteria.)

Retired Reserve

Transfering to the Retired Reserve will base your retirement pay on the pay tables at the time you reach your eligible age for retired pay.

Individual Ready Reserve

Transfering to the Individual Ready Reserve allows Soldiers to accumulate additional retirement points.

Qualitative Retention Board (QRB)

Enlisted Soldiers with 20 or more years of qualifying service for non-regular retired pay may be involuntarily retired by the QRB. Soldiers non–retained by the QRB will be notified of the board results and will be retired according to the effective date provided by The Adjutant General (TAG). Soldiers involuntarily discharged are eligible to receive retired pay and benefits at age 60.

Selective Retention Board (SRB)

Officers with 20 or more years of qualifying service for non-regular retired pay may be involuntarily retired by the SRB. Officers non–retained by the SRB will be notified of the board results and will be retired with the effective date provided by The Adjutant General (TAG). Officers involuntarily separated are eligible to receive retired pay and benefits at age 60.

Mandatory Removal Date (MRD)

Officers with 20 or more years of service for non–regular retired pay who have exhausted the maximum time allowed to serve in the current grade held. Officer’s effective date of discharge will be their Mandatory Removal Date. Officers separated are eligible to receive retired pay and benefits at age 60.
