The mission of the more than 600 pilots, aircrew members, aviation maintenance, and support personnel of the 78th AVN TC is to mobilize and deploy aviation forces in order to provide command and control, air movement, air assault, and medical evacuation support for combat operations worldwide. A secondary but vital mission is supporting civilian leadership in a domestic response role. From disaster response to National Special Security Events and even border surveillance, 78th AVN TC conducts numerous non-combat missions annually. Operating out of aviation support facilities in Winder, Hunter Army Airfield, Fort Stewart, and Marietta, the
78th AVN TC consists Black Hawk, Chinook and Lakota helicopters, fixed-wing, and unmanned aircraft systems. Its major units include elements of the 1st Battalion, 111st Aviation Regiment, in Winder; elements of the 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment and elements of Company B 935th Aviation Support Battalion at Hunter Army Airfield; elements from Company D, 177th Brigade Engineer Battalion, at Fort Stewart; and the 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment and elements of the 1st Battalion,106th Aviation Regiment in Marietta. Additional Marietta-based units include elements of Company C, 2nd Battalion 151st Security and Support; elements of Company B, 2nd Battalion and 245th Aviation Regiment; Detachment 9 Operational Support Airlift.
