Active Duty (20 Year TAFMS -AGR) Retirement

Airmen who complete 20 years of Active Duty service (accumulated 7,200 Active Duty points) are eligible for an Active Duty retirement.

Helpful Information:

- Air Reserve Orders Writing System (AROWS) order must be curtailed to at least one day prior to effective retirement date
- Include marriage/divorce/death cert if applicable
- Include last TWO sets of AGR orders

- Apply for retirement between twelve and six months prior to desired action. If applying with less than six months to effective retirement date, a six month wavier is required for ARPC.
- Once an application is submitted, it can be a difficult process to withdraw retirement or change the date.
- DD Form 2656 Helpful Information
  - Block 4: Must be your confirmed retirement effective date
  - Block 7: For AGR/Active-Duty Retirement, choose B1
  - Block 7: For Reserve Retirement, RRPA, and Age 60, choose B2
  - Block 10-13: Complete bank information, do not click Active Duty
  - Block 41-42: Wet signatures are preferred. If signing digitally, ensure all parties sign on the same date. Anyone may serve as your witness, excluding dependents receiving your benefits
  - Block 43-44: This section is only required if the member is declining SBP. The members spouse must sign with a notary present
- Obtaining Retired ID
  - • Bring in two forms of ID and retirement order to any DEERS office to obtain Retired ID.
  - • Members’ dependents may also receive retired dependent ID cards
